RUGBY star Tommy Bowe can add an honorary degree to his long list of achievements.
The Ulster ace posed with fiancee Lucy Whitehouse after he received the Honorary Degree of Doctor of Science from the University of Ulster for his outstanding contribution to sport.
The Monaghan native and Lucy, a former Miss Wales winner, were joined by Tommy's parents, Paul and Ann, at the ceremony at Belfast Waterfront Hall.
Tommy said he had been humbled when he found out he was to receive the award.
He said it had also caused amusement among team- mates and family members.
"My brother and sister are academics and have studied abroad and have masters and are very intelligent.
"I unfortunately had a few too many knocks to the head playing rugby, but to be the only doctor now I think is something that I hold with a lot of pride."
He and Lucy are rumoured to be planning their nuptials at the Castle Leslie Estate in Monaghan.
