A YOUNG woman stabbed to death in a multiple killing last week will be cremated at a private ceremony today.

The remains of Alicia Brough (20) were brought to St Peter's Church, Rockchapel, Co Cork last evening. Requiem Mass will be celebrated at 2pm today.

There were moving scenes in the north Cork village last night as local people turned out in solidarity with the Dempsey family who made their home outside the village six years ago.

The sense of shock was still palpable in the area following the horrific death of Ms Brough along with her close friend Sarah Hines (25) and Sarah's two young children, Reese (3) and Amy (5 months).

Support

Ms Brough's body was returned to her parents Paul and Maria Dempsey at the weekend. Her stepfather Paul thanked the Rockchapel community for their support.

The Dempseys moved from Cheadle in Staffordshire over six years ago to pursue their dream of a better life in a rural smallholding.

Mr Dempsey spoke of how they had bought their cottage and land and planned to be completely self-sufficient and produce their own food.

He had even completed a diploma in organic horticulture. "That was the dream we were working towards. It was all about sustainability and the environment," he said.
