St Patrick Athletic's goalkeeper gets death threat after match

GARDAI have been contacted after a goalkeeper received an online threat after conceding a penalty in the FAI Cup final.
St Patrick's Athletic goalkeeper Brendan Clarke was targeted by a disgruntled fan on his Twitter account following the club's 3-2 defeat to Derry City in the final at the Aviva Stadium on Sunday.
The married Dublin man received the chilling "tweet": "I hope you die on the way home."
But neither Mr Clarke (27) nor gardai are treating the comment as an actual death threat, according to club secretary Anthony Delaney.
"While it is a bit frightening and it's not a nice thing to say, we believe the person who did this is a 17-year-old fan," he said.
"Personally, I'd put it down to somebody being stupid or immature," he told the Irish Independent last night.
Mr Clarke -- who has a seven-month-old baby -- can make a formal complaint to gardai if he so chooses, but it's unlikely, he added.
The club will also be carrying out its own investigation and the person or persons responsible will be brought in front of its disciplinary board.
