Former president Paddy Hillery was famous for improving his golf handicap while he was in the Aras -- but golf is playing a different role in this campaign.
Mary Davis had a €32,000 golf fundraiser in the K Club yesterday, which was organised by her brother Eugene Rooney, a former Mayo footballer who runs "the Irish Pub" in New York. He came home to help out with her campaign.
And there will be more golf this weekend -- another Davis fundraiser at Killeen Castle in Dunsany, Co Meath. But unlike Paddy Hillery, Mary is not a golfer -- her spokeswoman confirmed that she was more into mountain climbing.
Spread the vote
Guess which TD brought up the old chestnut of extending the vote in presidential elections to people in the North?
Step forward Sinn Fein's Gerry Adams -- although he did acknowledge that it would have to be for the next presidential election. Too late to help out Martin this time round, then.
Taoiseach Enda Kenny said it would be considered by the forthcoming "Constitutional Convention" so beloved of his coalition partner Labour.
All kinds of royalties
Every day brings more information about the financial affairs of our seven presidential candidates.
But what we really want to know is -- how much is Dana making from 'Tinker Tailor Soldier Spy'? Eagle-eared cinema buffs may have noticed that her 'All Kinds of Everything' hit is featured in the 1970s-themed spy thriller.
That surely has to be worth something in royalties.
