Splaine switches focus to Aga Khan Cup glory
THE Irish team that won the coveted Aachen Nations Cup last month will line out again in the Aga Khan Cup later today.
However, anchorman Denis Lynch has not brought top horse Lantinus to the Dublin fixture and instead will line out with Nabab's Son.
Billy Twomey will be pathfinder with Tinka's Serenade and will be followed by Dermott Lennon on Hallmark Elite and Cian O'Connor on K Club Lady.
Lennon's horse took a shocking fall at the water jump at Hickstead last Friday, so Irish team manager Robert Splaine hopes the gelding has recovered fully from that experience.
"Our whole focus will be winning the Aga Khan Cup" Splaine said.
However, Paul O'Shea was the man of the moment yesterday when he scored a sensational double.
He began with a dare-devil ride to win the €21,000 Speed Derby.
And he closed the main arena action with another great performance, this time from Camino de Haar Z in the Burlington Hotel Six Bar, in which he left Olympic gold medallist Laura Kraut and the world number two Pius Schwizer in his wake.
