The lavish new staging coincides with the 50th anniversary of the film - the most successful movie musical in history.

'Winning Streak' presenter Marty Whelan walked the red carpet at the Bord Gáis Energy Theatre last night with his wife Maria on his arm to mark a special occasion.

"It was our 30th anniversary last week so we took a few days off ... We're very happy and lucky.

"We're here tonight for a sing along - the scary thing is we know all the words."

RTÉ radio presenter Lottie Ryan was there with her mother Morah and siblings Bonnie, Babette and Elliot, while broadcaster Gay Byrne attended with his wife Kathleen Watkins and their grandchildren.
