Solicitor struck off for misappropriation of client funds
THE High Court has ordered the striking off of a solicitor Ruairi O'Ceallaigh for misappropriation of client funds.
He must also pay around €1.35m to the Law Society's compensation fund.
Last October, a Solicitors Disciplinary Tribunal (SDT), which deals with complaints against the profession, recommended the striking off of Mr O'Ceallaigh, a former partner in the firm of Sean O Ceallaigh & Co.
Mr O Ceallaigh admitted the case against him.
Yesterday, the SDT brought its recommendation to the president of the High Court Mr Justice Nicholas Kearns who made the order striking him off and ordering him to make the restitution payment to the compensation fund along with the costs of the case. Vincent Crowley, solicitor for Mr O'Ceallaigh, consented to the order.
