John Hennessy has made a name for himself defending the underdog in some high-profile cases.

The Dublin-born and UK-educated solicitor came to prominence when he represented Baiba Saulite, pictured, a mother of two who was shot and killed outside her home in Swords in 2006.

Mr Hennessy had been representing Ms Saulite in family law proceedings prior to her death and he subsequently required garda protection after his own life was threatened.

His practice Hennessy & Perozzi Solicitors is in Swords, north Dublin, and he has represented a number of clients in compensation cases against airlines.

Denise McDonagh's case went stratospheric when Ryanair decided to use it to challenge the EU system of compensating passengers left stranded by flight cancellations.

Mr Hennessy is also representing a number of clients on the PIP breast implants scandal.
