Fiach Kelly Political Correspondent

SOCIALIST Party MEP Joe Higgins's new left-wing alliance is aiming to win six seats at the next general election.

Mr Higgins will head the new 'United Left Alliance', which is fielding 20 candidates in the election.

He claimed the group could win as many as six seats in an "election that will be different to anything else in Irish history".

The alliance will bring together left-leaning parties such as the Socialists and the People Before Profit Alliance.

They are hopeful of taking seats in Dublin West , Dublin North and in Dun Laoghaire.
