Tributes have been paid to a young Irish woman who has died in Canada after a tragic fall at her home.

Regina Hunt, who was in her late 20s, suffered a serious brain injury in the incident in Peterborough, Ontario, last week and died in hospital at the weekend.

Ms Hunt, a former IT Sligo student, emigrated to Canada from her home in Tubbercurry three years ago.

Friends had begun an online funding campaign for medical treatment after the incident, but Ms Hunt passed away on Sunday.

"Heaven has gained a big angel tonight," said friend Bernie O'Shea.

"A true lady. Full of life and totally fun. I'm glad I had the pleasure to meet her and call her a friend. Thinking of her family. Give them the strength to get through this horrible time."

Family members, including dad Sean and mum Christina, have flown to Ontario to accompany Regina's remains home.
