Ms Gowing (37), from Clareen, Co Offaly, disappeared on October 12 in Queensferry, Wales.

Tests on human remains found in two different areas have confirmed that they belonged to Ms Gowing. However, police in Wales have not revealed the nature of the remains that were found.

Catherine's mother, Maureen Gowing, said that the family were very pleased with the conduct of Welsh police – who have kept them updated during their investigation.

She said that they have been "wonderful" to the family.

"The police in Wales have been very helpful," she added.

A spokesman for North Wales Police said searches were continuing in the Flintshire area.

North Wales man Clive Sharp (46), of no fixed address, has been charged with murder and remanded in custody until January 7 when he is due to enter a plea.
