Presenter Rachel Wyse is favourite to front GAA matches on Sky Sports – if the satellite channel wins a slice of the popular sporting action.

Sky Sports is believed to be at an advanced stage in its negotiations with Croke Park bosses, meaning fans could be hit with TV subscription charges to watch some of this year's All-Ireland championship games.

It is believed that Ms Wyse is in pole position for the role, as she is the only fulltime Irish sports news anchor with the channel and has written extensively on Gaelic games in the Irish Independent.

The 28-year-old Blackrock woman has just signed a new three-year deal with Sky Sports News.

Wyse has been a sports columnist with the Irish Independent for the past 18 months.

Neither Ms Wyse nor Sky would confirm if a deal had been struck, however industry insiders believe an announcement is imminent in coming days.

RTE is expected to continue as the main rights holder of the GAA action, but it is understood the Sky package would feature up to 10 games, including two All-Ireland quarter-finals.
