Another man has been arrested in relation to the murder of former RIRA commander Aidan O'Driscoll.

O'Driscoll, known as 'The Beast', was shot on Commons Road, Cork last December.

The arrested man, aged in his 40s, is the sixth person to be arrested in relation to the murder. He was arrested on Sunday night in Cork, shortly after 9pm.

He is currently detained at Mayfield Garda Station where he can be held fro up to three days for questioning.

O'Driscoll was the former chief of staff of the RIRA and was involved in a number of feuds with Dublin gangs.

He was shot dead in an ambush in Blackpool in Cork and it is believed he fell victim to a power struggle within the dissident republican ranks in Cork, with the former chief of staff also being targeted because of personal feuds with a number of other RIRA men.

Up to four getaway vehicles may have been used in the attack.
