SINEAD O’CONNOR has written another open letter – this time to a Fine Gael TD.
The Nothing Compared to You singer has questioned the Alan Farrell’s tweets over the weekend in which he called her “as mad as a brush”.
In the letter, Sinead demands that the TD provide an explanation for his tweets and adds, “I’m sure many people who struggle with mental health issues would like one also.”
Sinead has written a number of widely-reported open letters to the American pop singer Miley Cyrus over the past week.
She initially wrote to Cyrus to express her concern over her apparent efforts to ‘prostitute’ herself for the music industry.
Cyrus retorted on Twitter, a popular forum for celebrity arguments, mocking O’Connor’s mental health history – a move too far for Sinead and mental health advocacy groups.
However, Mr Farrell tweeted while watching O’Connor’s appearance on RTE’s The Late Late Show on Friday evening.
“While I think Sinead O Connor is as mad as a brush; having watched a snipit of her on The Late Late, she is correct re the denigration of women,” he said.
He responded to negative reactions to his tweet, saying “my opinion stands”.
O’Connor is incredulous in her open letter. “Wow…so its ok for Government representatives to practice fascism on those they deem to be mentally ill,” she said.
