Signs of support fading
THE signs and banners that lined the 9km of road between Sean Quinn's home village of Derrylin, Co Fermanagh, and Belturbet, pledging "full support" for the Quinn group were looking a little faded and weather-worn writes Anita Guidera.
In one local bar in the pretty Cavan village, a customer at the counter, who appeared to have received and rejected a wedding invitation, proclaimed that he would never attend a wedding with a black-tie dress code.
"You won't get me in a monkey suit. We're not monkeys," he declared loudly to anyone who would listen.
Support for the man once dubbed 'the Mighty Quinn' appears, at least in some quarters, to be waning.
"I have heard so many younger people saying that he suffers from a gambling mentality and that he has gambled with their livelihoods and lost. There is a lot of anger towards him," said one local woman.
