'Shy country boy' O'Dowd will brave the red carpet at IFTAs

'BRIDESMAIDS' star Chris O'Dowd has confirmed he'll be strolling down the red carpet for the glitzy Irish Film and Television Awards (IFTAs) next month.
The Roscommon actor -- who recently announced his engagement to TV presenter Dawn Porter -- has been been given a double nod, as he's been nominated for a Rising Star Award at both the UK BAFTAs and the Irish IFTAs.
A tongue-in-cheek Mr O'Dowd quipped he couldn't wait for the night "in the big schmoke" for the IFTA ceremony on February 11 at the Convention Centre in Dublin, as it would be a welcome night out for a "shy country boy".
Also up for the award designed to highlight new up-and-coming talent in the Irish industry is John McDonagh, director of the Irish hit film 'The Guard'; former 'Hollyoaks' actor Emmett Scanlon, for his role in the film 'Charlie Casanova'; and Rebecca Daly, director of the film 'The Other Side of Sleep'.
Mr McDonagh has already signed up Mr O'Dowd -- who is currently busy filming a six-part comedy, 'Moone Boy', in his hometown of Boyle, Co Roscommon -- for a new film, 'Calvary', to be shot in west Sligo this summer.
