THE dress she wanted was designed by a man who grew up less than 20km from her home.
But Tralee native Claire Murphy had to go as far as New York to get the dress by celebrated Ballyheigue-born designer Don O'Neill.
But the Kerry woman's determination paid off when she was named the Best-Dressed Lady at a fashion show sponsored by the Irish Independent and The Kerryman at the Rose of Tralee dome last night, and won €1,000.
Her turquoise beaded dress, with full A-line skirt and netted underskirt, was a runaway winner with the judges. The winner's attention to detail certainly made her stand out in the packed dome. "Fiona Morgan, from Jasmine Boutique in Russell Street, hand-sprayed my shoes and bags," explained Claire, who bought two of Don's dresses when she was in the United States at Easter.
The Kerry man has taken the international fashion industry by storm. The local fashionistas were out in force for the fashion show produced by Celia Holman-Lee, at which 36 local stores, boutiques and designers took part. Claire is pictured on the right with Jean Lennon last night.
