EYE-catching red sales stickers were spotted dangling from plush leather handbags, crease-free business suits and knee-high boots.

Bargain hunters in Dublin were swiftly doing their maths when it came to the 50pc and 30pc off in the Arnotts handbags hall.

Yet, most of the early birds were dawdling just inside the door, near the Coach bags, with a small over-the-shoulder bag slashed from €295 to €148.

In French Connection, a black sequinned dress had 20pc off its €180 price tag. Reiss had a red number slashed from €250 to €178.

In Debenhams, there were half-price tickets on many of the items in the menswear, with a John Rocha navy cable crew knit down from €78 to €39. In high-street chain River Island, a green leather bag had been slashed from €33 to €18.

On Grafton Street, there were plenty of shoppers trawling the rails in Brown Thomas where a canary yellow Max Mara SportMax coat was down from €690 to €292 and a Diane von Furstenberg red dress was half price at €210.

Other popular choices included a Carven dress down to €285 and a Stella McCartney tweed dress, down to €850.
