Shop hopes winner of €2.6m Lotto 'is a local'
THERE were celebrations at a family-run newsagents yesterday after selling the winning ticket for the weekend Lotto jackpot of over €2.6m.
Staff at Newsworld in the Ballybrack Shopping Centre in south Dublin only learnt the good news after the Irish Independent contacted them yesterday afternoon.
"No way! That's amazing!" said a thrilled Marie Roe, whose mother Brigid runs the shop.
It's not clear if the owner of the winning €6 Quick Pick ticket is also in the dark about their huge windfall and there was no indication yesterday as to who the lucky winner was. Marie said she hopes the winner of the €2,664,608 jackpot is one of their regular customers.
"We would be fairly busy, mostly with people who live around here. Hopefully it's someone local," she added.
It is the second time the shop has had a big Lotto winner, the previous win was 10 years ago.
The winning numbers were 4, 10, 21, 32, 43, 44 and the bonus number was 11.
