SHAY Given says he has forgiven Thierry Henry for the handball that ended Ireland's World Cup dream last November.
Children at the All Hallows Catholic College in Macclesfield, Cheshire, were thrilled when the 34-year-old goalkeeper, his arm in a sling after an end-of-season shoulder injury, opened his heart about his feelings on that fateful night.
One pupil said: "It was amazing -- he told us how angry and upset he was at the time, but that he had forgiven Henry now.
"It was very big of him after all the bitterness and anger that the cheating had caused."
Given, a father-of-two who lost his mum to cancer when he was five, also spoke about his life as a Premiership footballer, his time at school in Ireland, the sporting highlights of his career and his dreams and aspirations.
Head teacher Tony Billings said: "Shay handled the questions brilliantly and showed himself to be both caring and principled, with his passion for the game shining through."
