Shatter says anti-terrorist law must stay
THE Government has warned that it must retain its existing anti-terrorist legislation to defeat the threat posed by dissident republican groups.
Justice Minister Alan Shatter also told the Dail it was imperative that the garda force was properly equipped to combat that threat.
He said nobody should be under the illusion that renegade groups did not have designs on the State.
He said the garda assessment, shared by the PSNI, of the terrorist threat level in the North was that it was severe.
There had been a number of incidents over the past year illustrating the activities of the dissidents.
