JUSTICE Minister Alan Shatter has congratulated gardai on securing the convictions of gangland boss John Dundon and hitman Barry Doyle, for the 2008 murder of innocent rugby player Shane Geoghegan.
Mr Geoghegan (28) had no links to crime and was mistaken by Doyle for another man. Mr Shatter said gardai in Limerick had done "an extraordinary job" in taking gangsters off the streets.
DIOCESE ROLE FILLED
A NEW administrator has been appointed to steer a Catholic diocese after the resignation of one of Ireland's longest-serving bishops.
Monsignor Nicholas O'Mahony will take on the role of governing the Diocese of Waterford and Lismore, left vacant since Dr William Lee (71) had to step down due to serious illness.
MISSING MUM FOUND
AN Irish woman and her son missing for almost a month have been found safe and well in London. Carmel Williams (57) vanished with her son Alexander (17) after they went shopping in their hometown of Mullingar, Co Westmeath, on Saturday, September 14.
Carmel and Alexander were found yesterday afternoon by police on London's Oxford Street.
