Seven arrested as part of garda drugs operation in South East

SEVEN people have been arrested in Co Wexford today as part of a planned swoop against the cultivation, distribution, sale and supply of drugs.

The searches were part of Operation Serpentine, which is targeting the drugs trade in the South East Region.

Gardai based in Wexford assisted by teams from other counties in the region carried out a number of searches in Co Wexford this morning.

Customs and Excise officials based in Waterford were also involved in the operation.

At a house in Dunmaine, Co Wexford a man and woman were arrested and 1oz of Cocaine was seized.

In Ballywilliam, New Ross a man was arrested and a number of items relating to drug cultivation seized.

Durign a search of a house in  Longraigue, Co Wexford two men were arrested and 1oz of Cannabis resin and a number of items relating to drug cultivation were sezied by officals.

A grow house was discovered with €18,000 of harvested cannabis herb at a premises at Killesk, Campile, Co Wexford.

At a house at Grange Rd, New Ross a man was arrested and 1kg of cannabis herb seized with an approximate street value of €20,000. 3.5kilos of speed with a value of €50,000 was also seized during the search.

Meanwhile at a house in Ramsgrange, Co Wexford a grow house was discovered and €40,000 of harvested cannabis herb seized.

In total six men and one woman were arrested, ranging in age from mid 20's to early 60's.

They are being detained under the provisions of section 2 of the Criminal Justice Act.

They are being held a various Garda stations in the South East.

The operation was part of Operation Nitrogen, which was established to combat the cultivation, supply, sale and distribution of controlled substances nationally.
