Second arrest made over Gorey 'hit and run' death

A second person has been arrested over an alleged hit-and-run crash in which a young woman was killed, it emerged today.

Kelly Cregan, 20, died after she and another woman were struck by a vehicle that failed to stop on Main Street, Gorey, Co Wexford, shortly after 2.30am on Sunday.

The car believed to have been involved in the incident was later found burned out in the Kilnahue Lane area of the town.

A woman in her 30s, believed to be the owner of the vehicle, was arrested this morning in Gorey.

She is being held at Enniscorthy Garda Station under Section 30 of the Offences Against the State Act and can be questioned for up to 72 hours.

A man in his 30s was arrested yesterday and was being detained under Section 4 of the Criminal Justice Act.

Gardai are appealing for witnesses to come forward.

Main Street was closed following the incident to allow gardai to carry out a technical and forensic examination.

The other woman struck by the car was treated at Wexford General Hospital for non-life-threatening injuries.
