Kieran McKeon and Alexandra O'Brien were last seen alive in Derry. A body retrieved from the River Foyle is believed to be that of Ms O'Brien

A body has been found in the search for a young couple from Dublin who were spotted plunging 200 feet into a river.

Kieran McKeon, 18, and 21-year-old Alexandra O'Brien were seen at a hotel in Derry in the early hours of yesterday.

It is understood the two friends had travelled to the city from a Dublin hospital. Both have been described as being vulnerable individuals.

Investigators are now fearing for the safety of Mr McKeon after locals reported seeing two people jump from a bridge at the River Foyle.

Ms O’Brien’s body was pulled from the river last night and taken to the city’s Altnagelvin hospital for a post mortem examination.

The PSNI today confirmed that the body had been identified.

Clothing and other items belonging to the young couple were left at the top of the bridge.

The ongoing operation by members of Foyle Search & Rescue to find Mr McKeon is tide dependant and crews will return to the water at around 4.30pm today.

Police said the search for the teenager was not just concentrated on the water.

He is described as being approximately 5ft 6in, of slim build, with long brown hair covering his face.

When last seen, he was wearing a dark hooded top and grey tracksuit bottoms.
