Search for missing diver in Galway caves reporters

The search was continuing today for a Polish diver who went missing after going diving alone in caves north of Gort, Co Galway.

He had entered the caves at around 3pm and had oxygen to last until 9pm last night.

When he did not resurface, his two colleagues on the surface raised the alarm.

A diver from Doolin coastguard, a friend and colleague of the missing man, entered the caves at around 11pm. He carried out a two-hour search but could find no sign of the missing man.

However, he reported that the caves were flooded to a depth of 52 metres.

The missing diver is said to be highly experienced and very familiar with the caves.

The search will continue today.
