The victim, who has been identified as Henryk Piotrowski, 43, was crushed to death in an industrial-sized bin in south Dublin.

Staff working for Panda were unloading the contents of the bin on Friday morning when they made the grim discovery.

A senior garda source confirmed work was underway with the international criminal police organisation in a bid to contact the victim's relatives.

"Gardai are liaising with Interpol on the matter," he said.

"We are seeking his next of kin in Poland."

It is understood Mr Piotrowski had no family in Ireland.

Gardai were trying to determine whether the man was homeless and had been sleeping rough in the bin when it was emptied.

The bin's contents were crushed and compacted before it was emptied at the Ballymount Road facility in Walkinstown.

It is understood the victim was carrying identification papers when he was found with what gardai have described as horrific injuries.
