Search for body called off

GARDAI last night called off their search of a wooded area in a south county Dublin golf club as part of their investigation into the disappearance of schoolboy Philip Cairns, who went missing almost 23 years ago, writes Tom Brady.

The search was launched on Wednesday after information from a local woman, who said she had noticed soil freshly disturbed in the area around the time of Philip's disappearance. A section of the wood was sealed off and examined. But the search was abandoned yesterday afternoon after nothing was found there.
