HE TURNED the lineout into an art form, and the scrummage into a science.
Now Munster and Ireland stalwart Paul O'Connell is set to be given an honorary doctorate from the University of Limerick.
The legendary lock, who was forced off injured in his final game for Ireland against France earlier this month, will be honoured at a ceremony in the University Concert Hall next Thursday, November 5.
Former Irish captain O'Connell will receive a UL Honorary Doctor of Science.
O'Connell won 108 caps for Ireland over a 14-year career, but announced his intention to retire from international rugby following this World Cup.
He is due to play his club rugby with Toulon this season, but a serious hamstring injury sustained in Ireland's final pool match against France means that he is currently recovering from surgery.
