Saturday night's Lotto jackpot is set to reach €8 million following a roll series of six weeks.

The last Lotto jackpot was won by a family syndicate from Co Cavan who scooped the whopping €4.5 million prize on Christmas Eve.

The current Lotto jackpot has been rolling since Wednesday December 28 2016 and the National Lottery has confirmed that €8.2 million will have been raised for good causes in the current Lotto jackpot roll-over series.

National Lottery Chief Executive, Dermot Griffin said: "Due to the large jackpot, we are seeing a high level of interest from our players ahead of Saturday’s draw.

"While we are eagerly anticipating our first Lotto jackpot winners of 2017, the big winner so far has been the National Lottery Good Causes Fund. A massive €8.2 million will have been generated in the current Lotto jackpot roll alone. The Good Causes Fund is allocated to support worthwhile causes and community based projects across the country."

Forecasters have predicted that over 150,000 tickets will be sold between 6pm and 7.45pm on Saturday evening.
