Salt sales double as householders tackle icy paths
SALES of table salt have almost doubled as householders take action to deal with treacherous paths and driveways.
Nutritionists need not panic as supermarkets report customers have been stocking up on salt merely to beat the cold spell.
Tesco confirmed that customers were stocking up on salt to deal with their own slippery paths.
Sales of table salt are up 90pc when compared with the start of December.
"We have noticed a very significant increase in the past two weeks," a spokesman said. During Christmas week alone sales of salt more than doubled.
The retail giant has sold 74 tonnes of table salt since the start of December.
