Safety first

safety first

Q Irish Water Safety is urging people to put into practise simple water safety guidelines. They include:

* Never swim alone and always swim within your depth.

* Only swim in areas you are familiar with and ask locals for advice on any hazards if unsure.

* Swim at waterways with lifeguards or, if the area isn't lifeguarded, swim only at traditional bathing areas.

* Make sure that ringbuoys or lifesavers are present.

* Do not swim at night, and don't drink alcohol before getting in the water.
