Ryanair plane in 'engine failure'

EMERGENCY services were put on standby after a Ryanair aircraft suffered engine failure on approach to the northern Spanish city of Santander at the weekend.
Ryanair flight FR7152 from Dublin to Santander had the engine failure just before it landed safely at its destination on Sunday. The airline has refused to reveal the cause of the engine failure.
Gardai in hunt for missing man
GARDAI last night appealed for help in tracing a 57-year-old man missing for nearly two weeks.
Thomas O'Sullivan, who has an address in London, was visiting relatives when he went missing. He was last seen in Tralee, Co Kerry, on August 14. He is about 5ft 9in tall, of slight build with short grey hair and blue eyes. Factory outlet promises 200 jobs
PLANNING permission is being sought for a factory outlet in the south-east, which could create up to 200 full-time retail jobs.
A company called Junction One Investments Ltd is seeking permission to build the outlet, which will have 34 units over 8,435 square metres on the Cork Road in Waterford. Up to 300 construction jobs will be created, if the plans are approved. Objectors have raised concerns about car parking and increased traffic volumes.
Councillors hail former city boss
COUNCILLORS yesterday paid tribute to a former city manager who was hailed as "the ultimate public servant".
Cork City Council held a special tribute meeting prior to the funeral of retired city manager, Jack Higgins (73). Mr Higgins passed away last Saturday at the Mercy University Hospital in Cork following a short illness. He is credited with having been instrumental in the re-design of the streetscape in Cork city centre, and in the redevelopment of Mahon on Cork's southside.
