HE has admitted to having limited skills in the kitchen, but RTE broadcaster Ryan Tubridy was more than happy to put his culinary talents to the test in the name of love this week.
He was approached last year by Alan Howard, father of bride-to-be Maeve Howard, and asked to bake a cake for his daughter's wedding to fiancé Carl Doyle on March 19.
Tubridy (39) fulfilled his promise to his 2FM listeners this week by rolling up his sleeves at Bake My Cake in Blackrock, Co Dublin, to conjure up what he dubbed as "a confectionery masterpiece".
He told the Irish Independent of his delight – and stress – at contributing to the couple's big day.
"I didn't know how to do any of it, so it was a huge challenge for me," he said. The father of two will hand over the cake to the future husband and wife the night before their wedding, which takes place at Castle Durrow, Co Laois.
Ms Howard said she "couldn't believe it" when she discovered Tubridy had accepted the challenge.
"We're really grateful, it's so different and adds to the day. We were going to get a cake, or try to make one, but we'd heard Ryan liked challenges, so it seemed a fitting one for him," said Ms Howard.
