Russians 'stole' Irish identity

A Russian couple living in the US have been charged with the identity theft of an Irish citizen, after being uncovered on Facebook, writes Kevin Keane.

Fionghal Solomon Mac- Eoghan, an American who lives in Dublin and holds joint US and Irish citizenship, contacted police in Rhode Island after discovering a Russian man using his exact name on the social networking site. US authorities allege the Russian couple, whose true names are not known, fraudulently obtained US passports, driver's licences, and purchased a home using Mr MacEoghan's identity.

He grew suspicious after communicating on Facebook with a woman who told him that her husband had the same "unusual" name.
