Rural Crime: Three men threaten homeowners at knifepoint during aggravated burglary in early hours of the morning

Three men broke into a house and threatened a number of people at knife point in the early hours of the morning.

Gardai are investigating the aggravated burglary at a house in Edgeworthstown, Co. Longford.

At approximately 1.30am a number of males entered the house, gardai report.

The occupants managed to raise the alarm and gardaí arrived at the scene as the intruders fled.

A 41-year-old man was arrested by gardai after he was chased on foot from the house.

A 24-year-old man was later arrested near the scene during a follow-up operation involving gardai from local stations Granard and Longford.

Gardai have retrieved all the property taken during the course of the burglary.

They also seized a car as part of the investigation.

The two men are currently detained under Section 4 of the Criminal Justice Act, 1984 at Granard and Longford Garda Stations. The can be held for up to 24 hours.

The investigation is ongoing and further updates will follow.
