But they had some competition on their hands over the weekend when O'Driscoll's Ireland teammates Rob Kearney and Fergus McFadden stepped out as one another's dates to the Leinster Rugby Ball at the Mansion House in Dublin.

The two sporting stars, both single after splitting with respective girlfriends Suzie Amy and Hazel O'Sullivan, attended the annual event together on Saturday night.

McFadden posted a picture on his social networking page during the dinner of himself and his full-back teammate, both donning sharp black suits for the occasion.

"Me and my plus one at the ball," 26-year-old McFadden wrote.

One of the most glamorous nights on the sporting calendar, the bachelors were among some of the country's most famous rugby heroes to honour their colleagues' many achievements on the playing field.

O'Driscoll and his actress wife Amy joined Leo Cullen and his wife Dairine in the blues-themed function room. Cian Healy, one of the team's proud Lions ambassadors was accompanied by girlfriend Holly Carpenter, who borrowed a form-fitting little black dress from a fellow model for the occasion.

Enjoying a rare night off from the pitch, the celebrations then continued into the early hours at nightclub Krystle.

McFadden and Kearney were joined by Kearney's younger brother and teammate Dave, accompanied by his model girlfriend Hayley Ryan.
