Rugby ladies line out for new charity calendar

The ladies of Sligo Rugby Club have lined out in a stylish new calendar to raise funds for the North West Hospice.

Last year's team captain Niamh Connolly revealed the inspiration for the fundraiser was a cancer scare endured by a member of their team.

"It came as a terrible shock because we're all such close friends. This was the first time anything like this had happened to any of us," Ms Connolly said.

However, after some minor surgery the player -- who wants to remain anonymous -- made a full recovery, and the team decided to show their gratitude with a fundraising calendar by photographer Suzy McCanny.

"We set out to create images of which all the girls would be proud, and shot in a way that promoted rugby as a sport," added Ms Connolly, a physiotherapist based in Dublin.
