RTE stars silent after cocaine revelation

RTE issued a statement last night acknowledging "its sadness" after yesterday's inquest verdict on Gerry Ryan's death.

The station's statement read: "RTE again wishes to acknowledge its sadness at the sudden loss of our colleague Gerry Ryan earlier this year. RTE extends once again its sincere sympathies to Gerry's wife Morah, to his children and family, former colleagues, close friends and partner Melanie Verwoerd."

But overall RTE was silent on Gerry Ryan last night.

"I'm just not getting into it. I'm really sorry but no ...," one well known station personality told the Irish Independent when contacted about the verdict.

The mobiles of some of the biggest RTE personalities were either switched off last night, or on message. Home phones went unanswered.
