RTE honours the late Anne Bushnell with showing of 'Born in a Trunk'

AS a tribute to the late Anne Bushnell, RTE 1 will show Born in a Trunk -- her 1989 concert -- in which she performed the songs of Judy Garland with the RTE concert orchestra, and Des Keogh as narrator.

'Dean of Latin jazz' added to NCH bill

THE man described as the 'Dean of Latin Jazz' has just been confirmed as an new addition to the Walton's World Masters series at the National Concert Hall. Chucho Valdes (above) and The Afro-Cuban Messengers will play the NCH main hall on Monday, October 3.

Valdes has been hailed by the New York Times as "one of the world's great virtuosic pianists", but he's also a world-class bandleader, composer and arranger

Dionisio Jesus 'Chucho' Valdes Rodríguez is one of the most acclaimed Cuban musicians of his generation, and is revered as a national treasure in Cuba.

He has recorded more than 80 albums and has collaborated with such jazz masters as Herbie Hancock, Dizzy Gillespie, Wynton Marsalis and Chick Corea.

Giants of Ragtime for lunchtime show

'Famous Five' art show in Thurles

TOM Shortt, brother of top comedian Pat Shortt, will launch a 'Famous Five' Art Exhibition in the Source Art Gallery Thurles, Co Tipperary, on Thursday, June 2. The five famous painters to feature in the exhibition are Charles Harper, Gavin Hogg, Robert Ryan, John Shinnors and Richard Slade.

Low-cost school textbooks planned

EDUCATE.IE, Ireland's new educational imprint's low-cost schoolbooks strategy, has saved parents and schools €1.25m in its first year of operation.

Tickets on sale for Cistercian concert

UP to 80 Cistercian College, Roscrea, students including choirs, orchestra and soloists (vocal and instrumental) will be involved in a forthcoming concert in the University of Limerick Concert Hall on Wednesday, May 25.
