Roscommon to lose 24 hour emergency department

Roscommon County Hospital's emergency department will cease to operate on a 24-hour basis after July 11.
The official statements follows Taoiseach Enda Kenny’s announcement to a crowd of over 100 angry protestors yesterday.
The HSE now appears to be speeding up previous plans to wind down acute services at Roscommon .
An update of the blueprint for the hospital - presented to HIQA by the HSE - in February showed that plans were going ahead to cease acceptance of serious emergency cases, to end acute surgical services and the acceptance of major critical care cases.
The Taoiseach said Roscommon Hospital had a future – but in a different form.
Last week it was announced that 24 hour A&E services are also expected to be ended soon at St Columcille's Hospital in Loughlinstown, Co. Dublin.
