RNLI in row with Coast Guard over emergency call

The Royal National Lifeboat Institution (RNLI) is seeking a meeting with the Irish Coast Guard Service after the lifeboat crew in Dun Laoghaire was not called out to an emergency on board a trawler off south Dublin last weekend, writes Jim Cusack.
A trawler, Fragrant Cloud, reported a crew member unconscious with a gash on his head below deck at lunchtime last Sunday.
At the time, the nearest RNLI lifeboat crew was on exercise in Dun Laoghaire Harbour but it was not alerted by the Coast Guard service.
Instead the Coast Guard sent a rescue helicopter from Dublin Airport to the scene in Killiney Bay.
