River-murder victim was a loner, says aunt
THE family of an Englishman brutally murdered in Ireland said they have been left "shell-shocked" by his death.
John Forrester (42), pictured, had been living in Bandon, Co Cork, for a number of years before his death earlier this month.
His body was recovered from the River Bandon with his hands and feet tied and his body wrapped in a rug. Gardai believe Mr Forrester was killed in a frenzied attack inside the Bridge House apartment complex in Bandon where he had been living over recent months.
The dead man's aunt -- Joyce Rivett, from Blackpool in Lancashire -- said her nephew was estranged from his family and had been a "loner" most of his life.
Mrs Rivett remembered him as a "happy" child, but she had not seen him since he was in his 20s.
"He was estranged from his family, I think of his own choice, as far as we know.
"It is always sad when families lose touch, I wish I had known him more recently. But I remember him having quite a sense of humour and he was always happy and rarely was John down," she added.
Mr Forrester, who had a serious alcohol problem, had been a transient for many years.
