Rift in teachers' union as leader gets death threat

A rift has erupted in the country's largest second-level teachers' union as a leader revealed he had received "death threats".

ASTI members are deeply divided after a widespread backlash followed images of raucous behaviour by some teachers at their conference.

And general secretary Pat King (63) said he has been the target of "death threats".

It came as Ruairi Quinn yesterday stunned the TUI conference by announcing plans to make teachers at further education colleges work during the summer months.
