Revenue officers seized alcohol and cigarettes worth over €2,600 at Dublin Port this morning.

Officers seized over 86 litres of alcohol, 1,600 cigarettes and near to two kilograms of tobacco when they stopped and searched a Ukranian registered van.

The van had arrived on a ferry from Holyhead, while the Slovakian driver and his Hungarian passenger were questioned.

The combined value of the contraband is in excess of €2,600, representing a potential loss to the Exchequer of approximately €1,950.

Revenue said the seizure was part of its "ongoing operations targeting the supply and sale of illicit alcohol and cigarettes in the shadow economy."
