Revenue seizes 1.1m cigarettes in Dublin Port
OFFICERS from the Revenue seized more than one million contraband cigarettes worth an estimated €516,000 at Dublin Port yesterday.
The ‘Benson and Hedges’ brand cigarettes arrived into Dublin Port yesterday from the United Arab Emirates and were concealed in a roll-on roll-off container in a shipment described as ‘foil containers’.
The 1.1 million cigarettes have an approximate value of €516,000 and would have had a loss to the Exchequer of €430,000.
The latest seizure is part of Revenue’s ongoing operations targeting organised gangs involved in the smuggling of illegal cigarettes. Investigations are continuing both nationally and internationally.
