FAMILIES are being encouraged to avail of public transport tonight, as extra services will be provided to transport revellers after the New Year’s countdown.
Those attending the Three NYE Dublin Countdown Concert can avail of late-night dart and commuter services, with Irish Rail operating additional trains to accommodate concert goers. The DART will run from both Connolly and Pearse Station at 1.30, 1.40 and 1.50am, with services also running for Drogheda and Maynooth customers.
“This is the first time we've done this late-night service over Christmas, but as the NYE Dublin festival has developed over recent years and with the scale of it this year we wanted to try it out and see if customers use the service,” Barry Kenny of Irish Rail said.
Hospitals are expecting a huge increase in demand at A&E departments. A spokesperson for the Mater Misericordiae University Hospital in Dublin told the Irish Independent the hospital was expecting a 50pc rise in demand at its A&E department this New Year's.
The Irish Nurses and Midwives Organisation said hospitals would “definitely” see a spike in the numbers admitted to A&E departments tonight, particularly those situated in urban areas.
