The main industry is tourism and the city’s population rises to over one million from 65,000 normally during the summer season with tourists, hotel and bar workers and builders fuelling the growth.
It is located on Turkey’s Aegean coast and the centre of the seaside district in Aydin Province.
The city stands on a bay in the Aegean with the peninsula of Guvercin Ada sticking out into the sea at one end, and the mountain of Kaz Da?? behind.
