A number of residents were evacuated from their homes after a viable device was found in the north Belfast area

Police received a report that a suspicious object had been found in the garden of a house in the Kinniard Street area around 9.30pm on Friday.

Army bomb disposal experts attended the scene and declared it a viable device.

It was taken away for further examination.

The security alert ended at approximately 1.40am on Saturday morning.
