Rescue workers recover body of man after car entered water

The body of a man has been recovered from a vehicle which entered the water in Co. Cork yesterday evening.

A spokesperson from Valentia Coast Guard said they have recovered the body of a man in his 60s from the vehicle.

Emergency services were called to the scene at the Old Head of Kinsale at 7.30pm where the vehicle was seen entering the water.

Gardaí at Anglesea Street in Cork contacted Valentia Coastguard and they scrambled the coastguard at the Old Head of Kinsale.

They were joined in the search operation by lifeboats from Kinsale and Courtmacsherry.

Rescue workers were able to recover his body at around 3.30am this morning following low tide at 2.30am.

His body was taken to Kinsale Lifeboat Station but the vehicle has not been recovered.

Gardaí are not treating the death as suspicious.
